As per the Rules of the Fund there is no longer a distinction made between members and councillors.
COMPOSITION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AS STIPULATED BY THE RULES
The Board of Trustees will consist of a minimum of eight (8) Trustees and a maximum of twelve (12) Trustees. Eight (8) Trustees will be directly elected by the eligible members and will be those from the following areas who received the highest number of votes in the elections:
- Four (4) Trustees from the Western Cape Province.
- Two (2) Trustees from the Eastern Cape Province.
- Two (2) Trustees from the Northern Region.
The elected Board of Trustees may appoint up to four (4) Trustees from the candidates who were nominated for election at the first Board meeting after the election, taking into account the factors specified in the Fund Rules (revised Fund Rules effective 1 November 2023).
The Board of Trustees may decide on the process for such appointment/s if any or all such appointments are not made.
The above is subject to the condition that a maximum of four (4) Trustees from the same employer may serve on the Board of Trustees.
TERM OF OFFICE
An election of trustees will be held every five (5) years, and a Trustee will remain in office until the Trustees have been declared elected for a new term. The elected Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Trustees will also serve in such capacity until the next trustee elections.
Trustees of the Fund have a responsibility to ensure that the CRF is managed in a transparent and fair manner, including:
- Acting in the best interest of the member by ensuring the interests of MEMBERS in terms of the RULES and the provisions of the ACT are protected at all times.
- Keeping a close eye on all service providers to ensure your assets are managed properly and according to legislation.
